With lots of wedding invitations in our roster lately, it is refreshing to see a birthday invitation added to the mix--a themed party for an adult, who weary of such events tried to have fun no matter what.
I designed this invitation for my alice in wonderland themed birthday tea party. I should let it be known that I hate birthdays — they usually end up as a disaster, people don't come when they've rsvp'd or something else inevitably goes wrong. So instead of letting that get to me, I thought I would go out and hit it head on by putting on an extravagant tea party... starting with the invitations.
I designed these in my absolutely favourite font Caslon, and printed it out on paper that I picked up at the local scrap-booking place — it was a nice, textured paper. I printed the design on my home printer, then sewed the paper with fluoro cotton to calico. To emphasize the tea and alice theme, i included a tea bag with a "drink me" tag inside a printed envelope.
Everything seemed to work well, which was surprising, due to my previous birthday bad luck. I did have a few problems with the printer feeding the smaller envelopes, which are not always well glued down and liked to get jammed, but i managed to fix that by feeding the envelopes on top of copy paper.
Can't help but wonder as to the onsite decorations, the black and white outfits and raised pinkies that gathered to celebrate and have a good oldfashioned time.
